The Bottomless Hallway Subject matter: my drawing is about a hallway located in the back of my high school. I see it everyday and chose it for my subject. Composition: I chose to do my drawing from a standing perspective at the end of the hallway. While drawing this hallway I chose to replace the floor with a black hole. I worked with graphite pencils and charcoal throughout the drawing. I used many lines to create the walls to give it a 3D effect. I used different shading effects by trying out blending stumps and a tee shirt to blend out the bricks giving it texture. Two principles used in my project are rhythm and movement. Both of these are present in the black hole part of the drawing.
plant still life assignment
Still Life
Subject matter: I selected a part of the table to draw that included a plant, flower, and a lamp. I chose this angle because I like drawing plants.
Composition: In this project I drew with charcoal and oil pastels to add color. I used different techniques to create a variety of textures like on the box and lamp shade. Adding value was the most difficult to control because of the charcoal. Still life drawing was difficult for me and isn't one of my favorite things to do
Charcoal project
The Pinwheel For this project I chose to draw a picture of my friend Lauren blowing into a pinwheel. I liked the reflection in the pinwheel and how her nails stood out. This project was completely drawn with charcoal. The most difficult part was the hair. I used several techniques to form the texture I wanted. Using the eraser helped add value to the highlights throughout her hair. Movement and rhythm were two principles present throughout my project. You can see movement and rhythm both in the hair and in the reflections of the pinwheel.

pen & ink project
Save Ferris I chose to use washes to create the image from my favorite movie. I chose this character as my subject matter because I thought it would be fun and something new. I mainly used washes to create the image. I used movement in the hair to create a more realistic picture. Line was also used throughout the hair to create the detail. Balance was shown throughout the face. It was difficult to balance the different washes and shadows on his face. Value was also visible throughout the different washes i used.
colored pencil project
“Ize” For my colored pencil project I chose to draw my Aunt Casey’s dog, Ize. I chose her because I thought the color of her fur would be challenging but fun. To create the fur I burnished 5 different colors with colored pencil. I used a light brown, dark brown, yellow, orange, and red. I also used baby oil over the top of the burnish. I used rhythm and movement throughout the project especially on the fur. I also used color and texture throughout the fur.
"Matthew's Alter Ego" For this mono print project I chose my brother Matthew as the subject. I chose him because he has curly hair that is fun to enhance and print. I made him surreal in this project by making his neck skinny, giving him bags under this eyes, and enhancing his features. My family started calling the mono print his alter ego, hence the name of the project. First, I did a subtractive print on watercolor paper. I wetted down the watercolor paper and ran it through the press. Then I enhanced the subtractive with water colors. I then cut out the subtractive and placed it on a piece of colored paper. On the colored paper, I did three different tape transfers. The meaning of my mono print project is just a fun picture of my brother. Behind it I put song lyrics and little sayings that remind me of him
Etching "sweet summer" For this etching I took a picture of me with sunglasses on and holding up a peace sign, and added flowers and a mountain range. I used shape and space throughout my etching because I tried to keep the exact shape of all the different things in the etching. I used space by filling in any left over space with flowers and then I used water color in my creative to make it even more filled. I also used movement and balance. I used movement in the mountain range by dragging it down the page with water color. I used balance by using lots of different colors in my creative to make it all flow together. I chose to do my etching this way because I wanted to create a summer vibe. I used the mountain range in the reflection because Colorado is one of my favorite places to go and it has beautiful scenery. I used pops of color in my creative to make it even more summery and fun.
