Techniques used: flat wash (sky behind the clouds and first layer on sunflower), dry on wet (texture in the clouds and the faded flowers in the back), wet on dry (ripples in the water and the stem of the flower), tissue paper (to take away from the clouds), graded wash (sand and shadows in the sun flower), spray (texture in the sand)
“Beach Life” I pulled a picture from the internet for this project. I chose it because I liked the idea of the van as the main subject but also having the beach background. I used emphasis on the van. I wanted to make it stand out more than the background of the picture. I used form to create a more bold look and tried to blur the objects in the background of the picture. I created movement in the palm trees by using color. I added many different shades of green and brown together for texture and value in the trees. I was inspired to do this painting because the picture puts me in a summer mindset. It reminds me of what you might see if you were somewhere tropical on the beach.
Liv’s Still Life For my still life I painted a turtle, a moon, a yoga pose statue, and some flowers. I chose these things because I think they describe who I am. These objects are things you can find around my room. In the flowers, I added texture by using a gel based paint to make it look more 3D. In the yoga pose statue, I added value with different shades of grey to show the different spots that light reflected off of it. In the cloth I created a pattern with different shapes and colors. I randomly placed the little flowers and dots making it seem not so organized or planned from far away. I used emphasis on the turtle’s shell. I used different shades of blue to make the shell stand out. All of these objects hold special value to me because they were gifts given to me from important people in my life.
